In search of empanadas

Let me respectfully remind you:
Life and Death are of supreme importance.
Time swiftly passes by and opportunity is lost.
On this night, the days of our life are decreased by one.
Each of us should strive to awaken.
Take heed!
Do not squander your life.

Chants – New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care

Awake early!

I will be changing accommodation today from the Uvita Pirates Hostel to an apartment booked through Airbnb. I would have preferred a single accommodation type in Uvita but the available dates didn’t work in my favour.

My stomach is still very unsettled and I don’t have much if an appetite but I am comfortable with the situation.

I checked out of my room but stayed in the common area of the hostel as I was wanted to join Sunday’s online ‘Sit-and-Share’ meeting before taking a slow 15-minute walk to my next accommodation.

I checked into the Airbnb apartment at exactly 3pm. The host met me with the keys and showed me around the accommodation. The apartment looks to be a fairly new building but it doesn’t have air-conditioning… only half a dozen electric fans… not very user friendly for the guest, nor, I would think, economical for the owner as 4 or 5 fans have to be running to have any impact against the heat.

A 2-minute walk away is the small but highly recommended El Hornito open air restaurant specialising in Argentinian empanadas. I had a selection of these savoury pastries with a homemade cold tea which was all very good.

By Sunday evening there were lots of people, cars and bikes passing my latest accommodation, all heading to Uvita beach to watch the sunset. I took the opportunity just to relax… nowhere to be and nothing to do… mindfully ‘squandering’ my life.

Good night.

Budget costs:

  • A selection of 3 empanadas and cold tea at El Hornito € 8
  • Apartment booked through Airbnb € 33 per night.
