Suggested Packing List

NOTE: These are just a few suggestions – not an exhaustive list –

Minimum Packing List:
  • Read the WARNING for addicts.
  • Return Air ticket (minimum of 10 days – maximum 30 days).
  • Passport with at least 6 months to run.
  • Vaccinations as recommended by your GP or local Medical Centre.
  • Travel Insurance.
  • Minimum Thai Baht 10,000 (This allows for the bus journey to/from Thamkrabok and the cost of 28 days treatment. You should have some money left over for emergencies or a small donation to the Monastery).
  • Clothes for travel to/from Thailand (you can wash them when you get there!).
  • Print details of how to get to Thamkrabok Monastery and ‘Picture Directions’.
Suggested Packing List:

  • At least Thai Baht 20,000  (This should allow for a taxi journey to/from Thamkrabok; plus the cost of 28 days treatment.  You should have some money left over for a donation to the Monastery).

  • Clothes for travel to Thailand.
  • Clothes for the return journey.
  • Blanket.
  • Pillow.
  • Sheet or large square sleeping bag liner (from Millets camping stores or similar).
  • Bell type mosquito net (from Millets camping stores or similar).
  • Underwear.
  • Sanitary towels etc. (for females coming off opiates in particular).
  • Razor etc.
  • Soap
  • Shampoo.
  • Deodorant.
  • Towel.
  • Toothbrush.
  • Toothpaste.
  • Mouthwash to use after vomiting (must be alcohol-free).
  • Mosquito Repellent.
  • Insect Bite Cream.
  • Antiseptic wipes/cream.
  • Bandaids (to cover-up the insect/mosquito bites).
  • Sun Hat.
  • Sun Block/Cream.
  • Sunglasses (but don’t look too cool otherwise you might see yourself on the front page of the tabloid newspapers – “Junkies In Deck Chairs”).
  • Cheap plastic flip-flops or sandals (the dogs will eat any leather ones).
  • Optional long-socks to protect your feet/ankles from mosquito’s (morning/evening) – light colours as mosquitos are attracted to dark colours.
  • Ear-plugs (available from Boots Pharmacy etc. – to aid much-needed sleep).
  • Blackout Mask (to aid your beauty sleep!).
  • Reading material.
  • Writing materials (you might want to re-write your life story!).
  • A cheap CD, MP3 or tape player…
  • … lots of batteries.

Please consider leaving stuff at Thamkrabok for use by other addicts less fortunate than yourself.

PLEASE REMEMBER ALL CONSUMABLES SUCH AS TOOTHPASTE, MOUTHWASH etc. MUST BE NEW, BRANDED & IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING WITH SEALS UNBROKEN!  ALL MUST BE ALCOHOL-FREE.
