In search of Iguanas

Some people live as though they are already dead. There are people moving around us who are consumed by their past, terrified of their future, and stuck in their anger and jealousy. They are not alive; they are just walking corpses.

in the mental health world, you are what you think.”

Harvey Whiteford

Last night, I didn’t turn the light off until after 1 am as I was researching towns and booking accommodation for a stop further down the Pacific coast

Alarm not set, but awake at 06:55 woken by some sort of machine noise and vibration very nearby. So close that the wall behind my pillow quivered. I could cope with the noise but the vibration was too unpleasant to tolerate.

Luckily, the apartment has a coffee maker and coffee… and I had bought some cookies, so back to bed with coffee and cookies… well several cups of coffee actually.

I threw some clothes on about 9 am to walk to a nearby supermarket to purchase some laundry detergent. I have been handwashing my clothing since October 13th and they are long overdue a proper machine wash. The apartment has a twin-tub washing machine so I am going to take advantage of this facility.

After six weeks of travel, I still have one shirt and one pair of shorts that have not yet been worn. So, I donned the unworn garb and everything else went into the washing machine and then put out to dry.

I even washed the hammock that I bought for the boat journeys down the Amazon.

At midday, I joined the weekly online Zoom meeting with my fellow Secular Buddhist students. This was very pleasant and agreeable as always, particularly the 25-minute silent meditation.

In the afternoon, I went in search of more coffee before taking a stroll to the bus station to check various departures, then on to an ATM as I need more cash.

I picked up some roast chicken and pasta sauces to cook with the spaghetti that I bought yesterday. I ended up with far to much food and had to throw some of it away, something I really don’t like doing.

It was time to bring the clean dry laundry in, fold it and repack it in designated packing cubes which makes travel very much easier.

Now it’s time for the latest episode of ‘Bake Off’ and a large tub of Strawberry and Lemon ice-cream.

Good night.

Budget costs:

  • Coffee € 2.25
  • ¼ Roast Chicken € 3
  • pasta sauce, cookies, bananas, ice-cream € 7.75
  • Apartamento Aliga 2 booked through Booking.com € 47 self catering.
