In search of a hike

“The moon and sun are travelers through eternity. Even the years wander on. Whether drifting through life on a boat or climbing toward old age leading a horse, each day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.

Bashō Matsuo

Awake at 7:33 am. Coffee and cookies in bed.

I was considering walking the lava trail inside the Arenal Volcano National Park but the tour company I contacted just wanted to sell a guided tour. In hindsight, I should just have gone by taxi. But hindsight is both a blessing and a curse.

I just had a lazy morning catching up on correspondence and life. I then went for a stroll around town including stopping for a Taco lunch.

Lunch was followed by one coffee and two cakes (Fika) and a general sense of gratitude and wellbeing even if it was almost as expensive as Fika in Scandinavia.

I went back to the Sleeping Mountain Hotel for an online ‘Meet & Meditate’ session with fellow students of Secular Buddhism. I mentioned at the meeting that I have been in La Fortuna for 3 days and I had not seen a volcano yet. But after the meeting ended, low and behold, the cloud lifted and there it was in all its glory… the sleeping mountain… Arenal Volcano.

Not much else happening today. I have an early start tomorrow, so an early night would be wise.

Good night.

Budget costs:

  • Lunch at Spectacolar Cantina 3 X Chicken Tacos € 14
  • 1 Coffee & 2 cakes € 12
  • Sleeping Mountain Hotel booked through Booking.com € 38 per night.
